We were honoured to hear from Jess Phillips MP, Minister for Safeguarding and VAWG at our AGM in November. Jess continues to be a powerful advocate for ending violence against women and girls, and for Respect’s role in stopping perpetrators of domestic abuse.
Jess discussed the government's mission to halve VAWG in the next decade and their Safer Streets Mission. She said;
''I am excited about the shared opportunities on the horizon. The scale of VAWG in our country is intolerable and tackling it is a top priority for this Government. Two million lives were affected by domestic abuse last year.
We are embarking on a transformative approach going further than ever before across Government, with a new VAWG strategy.
This is a mission that requires the coalition between Government, public services, private sector, charities and the public themselves.
Your [Respect’s] work and the work of your partners has never been more important. Tackling perpetrators of domestic abuse is central to our mission to halving VAWG.''
We would like to say a huge thank you to all the members, partners and supporters who joined us for the AGM and for your work with us over the last year. We are excited to see what the future holds.
