The theme of LGBT+ History Month 2025 is 'Activism and Social Change.' Activism has been the driving force behind progress for the LGBT+ community.
This LGBT+ History Month, we've been considering responses to domestic abuse in the LGBT+ community. Domestic abuse happens across all parts of society and in every kind of intimate relationship.
We had the opportunity to speak to leading experts, Professor Catherine Donovan and Dr James Rowlands from Durham University, who Respect has collaborated with many times in our work to end domestic abuse. James is also part of Respect's Board of Trustees.
In this insightful discussion, they reflected on past and present responses to both survivors and perpetrators of domestic abuse in the LGBT+ community and shared their thoughts on what's needed to further the movement to tackle LGBT+ domestic abuse.
To hear more from them, sign up to Durham University’s Department of Sociology event on Friday 7th March 2025, which will celebrate the history of the LGBT+ domestic abuse sector and develop a vision for the next 20 years.
