Following its call to action to end racism within the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) sector, Ending Racism in VAWG has launched its VAWG Sector Anti-Racism Charter. As part of our commitment to becoming an anti-racist organisation, Respect has signed up to the charter, and will implement the recommendations made.
The Charter addresses structural inequalities, replicated within the sector through practices and policies that operate to systemically disadvantage Black and minoritised women’s organisations. This in term shapes how Black and minoritised women experience abuse, and their access to safety, support and justice.
The Charter sets out a vision for an anti-racist approach, and is translated into practical recommendations across seven key areas: funding, partnerships and collaboration, appropriation, representation and engagement, leadership and governance, policy and influencing, and communications. They include work to: uplift and amplify ‘by and for’ organisations, hold funders to account, and ensure meaningful and equitable collaboration.
