Respect membership services are coming together and calling on MPs across the country to support a comprehensive funding approach that radically improves the response to domestic abuse perpetrators.
As the UK Government considers its three-year Comprehensive Spending Review, our members are highlighting to their local MPs and local government candidates that Labour’s mission to halve violence against women and girls (VAWG) within a decade can only be achieved by tackling the root cause of abuse and violence.
Respect has developed a toolkit to support member services in engaging with their local MPs and local government candidates. If you are an accredited member, or a service going through the accreditation process, you should have received this via email. If you haven’t heard from us or you are having any issues, please contact [email protected].
Respect Director of Influence, Caroline Bernard, said:
“While we have seen welcome awareness and discussion about domestic abuse increase in recent years, funding levels have not kept up with these conversations. The Spending Review offers a chance to rectify this. Domestic abuse is a high-volume, high-harm and high-cost issue – and a problem that costs billions cannot be solved with millions.
Along with our members, Respect is calling for committed funding to deliver a multi-agency approach that includes a variety of responses to perpetrators. Where those who perpetrate domestic abuse are stopped, held to account and given the chance to change. This must be recognised as a crucial part of increasing survivors’ safety and wellbeing, alongside funding for the full range of support services needed for adult and child survivors.”
