Respect welcomes the publication of the Independent Review of Children’s Social Care this week, especially the recognition that expertise in responding to domestic abuse is central to social work practice. Respect's Young People’s Service has been working for several years to upskill social work professionals around Child & Adolescent to Parent Violence & Abuse (CAPVA).
We are concerned, however, that the review has missed an opportunity to explicitly address CAPVA.
The Family Help teams proposed by the review will be central to improving the response to CAPVA and it’s vital that they link in with specialist CAPVA services. Respect’s Young People’s Service has been developing workforce competency in this area, something which will be central to the Family Help teams.
