Respect welcomes Home Office funding

Today we see the announcement of the Home Office funding for domestic abuse services working to prevent harm. Respect welcomes this additional funding for the sector and is excited to see the development of new and innovative approaches to address domestic abuse. 

We know from our engagement with the sector that many of our Accredited Members have been successful in their applications and this money will allow them to expand the range of services available to meet the needs of many new clients. 

Respect recognises that the funding is also enabling a significant expansion to the network of services available across England and Wales. The ongoing development of new services is essential to support those who harm as well as survivors, victims and children. 

The Respect Accreditation Standard quality assurance framework embodies the principle of Safe & Effective Practice. Working in this space is challenging and complex and whilst this funding announcement is welcomed we recognise that there will be some new services appearing who will benefit from training and support. 

Respect is here to support all organisations working in the specialist perpetrator sector and we look forward to getting to know new providers at this exciting time.

“When we embarked on this project together with SafeLives and Social Finance in 2015, we hoped to see Drive expand to more sites, while advocating for services all across the UK to ensure we are able to respond to a whole range of perpetrators. The news that the Government will be funding additional Drive sites is a significant marker of progress. We know there is so much further to go, and we also know that this work is essential. Drive will continue to put the safety of survivors at the centre of all they do and focus on preventing and ending domestic abuse by disrupting, changing, and challenging perpetrators.”
