We are delighted to announce that our project, Make a Change, is growing to support more people than ever before. Continuing its delivery across Lincolnshire, the project will also expand to provide support across three new areas: Trafford, Sunderland and Durham.
Developed by Respect in partnership with Women’s Aid Federation of England (WAFE), and designed to complement the Women’s Aid Change That Lasts approach, Make a Change is designed to provide a community-wide and early response to domestic abuse perpetration.
MAC’s aims are to:
- Intervene with abusive behaviour at an earlier stage than is typical, before it becomes entrenched and intervention is mandated by family court, criminal justice and/or children’s social care processes;
- In so doing, improve the safety and wellbeing of adult and child survivors of domestic abuse;
- Encourage communities, including friends, family members, professionals and other agencies, to see themselves as part of the solution to domestic abuse, and empower them to take action to address it;
- Reduce the wider societal and financial impact of abusive behaviour.
To achieve these aims, MAC provides:
- Interventions for those using abusive behaviours in their intimate or previously intimate relationships
- Support for their partners and/or ex-partners
- Community outreach
- Workforce development to improve professional responses to domestic abuse perpetration.
Key to the success of this project is partnership working; therefore, in areas where a
Respect-accredited domestic abuse perpetrator service is already available, Make a Change will work to enhance existing delivery. Make a Change wrap-around sites still engage with communities, support those using abusive behaviours, their partners/ex-partners and offer training to professionals.
We can now confirm that the full Make a Change programme will be available in:
- Lincolnshire (delivered by the Jenkins Centre and SOLDAS); and
- Trafford (delivered by TLC: Talk, Listen, Change and TDAS).
And that the Make a Change wrap-around programme will be available in:
- Sunderland (delivered by Impact Family Services and Wearside Women In Need); and
- Durham (delivered by Harbour)
